Nola Door Agent

The Nola Door Agent is a small program that runs on a Raspberry Pi or a mini PC next to a door. It reads a QR scanner, keypad or card reader, decides who may enter on the device itself, opens the door relay, and reports every entry to Nola. If the internet drops, the door keeps working.

#What you need

• A Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, or a small Linux PC, with Node.js 20 or newer.
• A USB QR scanner, keypad or RFID card reader that types each scan as one line.
• A relay that opens the lock: a Shelly relay on your network, or a relay board on the Pi's pins.

#Pair it with Nola

1. Open Settings → Access control and click Add door agent under Door agents.
2. Name it, for example "Front door Pi", and click Create pairing code.
3. Enter the code on the device. It works once and expires in 30 minutes.
4. Add a door in a zone, pick Nola Door Agent as the hardware, choose the agent and set the Port to the name of the door in the agent's settings (for example door1).

The agent swaps the pairing code for its own key, so your business's API key is never on the device. Pair again replaces a device; Revoke cuts it off for good.

#Status and alerts

Each agent shows Online, Offline, Waiting to pair or Revoked, when it was last seen and how many entries are waiting to upload. If an agent is silent for 5 minutes it is marked Offline and your admins get a "door agent offline" alert (choose who under Settings → Notifications).
