Leagues and rankings

Rankings keep a club leaderboard based on match results. Every player starts at a rating of 1000, and each confirmed result moves the winner up and the loser down. On top of the leaderboard you can run box leagues, where players are grouped by strength and move between boxes each round.

#Open rankings

Open Community → Leagues in the sidebar. The page has two views: Leaderboard & results and Boxes & ladder.

#Enter a match result

1. In Leaderboard & results, find Enter a result.
2. Type in Search players… to find the first player by name, email or phone, and select them. Do the same for the second player.
3. Fill in Player A score and Player B score.
4. Click Save. You see Result recorded and rating updated.

A result entered by staff counts straight away. The two players must be different people and the match cannot end in a tie.

Club leaderboard lists players by rating. A player appears there after their first recorded result. Ratings follow an ELO-style formula, so beating a higher-rated player gains more points than beating a lower-rated one.

#Run a box league

A box league splits players into small groups by rating. Players in a box play each other during the round. When the round ends, the best player in each box moves up a box and the weakest moves down.

1. Open Boxes & ladder.
2. Under Create a league, pick Box league (round-robin groups, promote/relegate).
3. Enter a name, the start and end date, and Players per box.
4. Click Create. The league appears as a button above the league details. Click it to open it.
5. Under Seed boxes from rated players, tick the players who take part.
6. Click the seed button, for example Seed 8 players into boxes (the number matches how many you ticked). Nola sorts the players by rating and fills Box 1 with the highest rated, then Box 2, and so on.
7. Enter results during the round as usual in Leaderboard & results.
8. When the round is over, click Close round (promote/relegate).

When you close a round, Nola counts each player's wins against others in the same box, using confirmed results between the league's start and end dates. The player with the most wins moves up one box, the one with the fewest moves down. Players in the top box cannot move up, and players in the bottom box cannot move down.

#Challenge ladders

You can also create a Challenge ladder league. The ladder view lists the league's challenges with their due date and status. For an accepted challenge, enter both scores and click Record result; the result counts and updates ratings. Challenges have a 14-day deadline.

#Public leaderboard

Your club also has a public leaderboard page. It only lists players who agreed to be ranked publicly, so players who have not opted in stay private.
